Week Two – Day One – 24 Days of Christmas
Verse to Remember: But to all who did receive him (Jesus), who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:12
Scripture. Choose the passage. (If using the Jesus Bible, page number given. Or use Biblegateway.com or Biblehub app).
Observation. What does the passage say? What is difficult to
understand? What does it say to me?
Application. How do I apply these verses? Is there something
to give God thanks for? Is there is a sin to avoid?
Prayer. Simply end your time with God talking with Him.
Day One
Scripture: Luke 8:16-18. Jesus Bible pg. 1575.
Observation: THE CHALLENGE IS ON! GET A GROUP OF FRIENDS AND MAKE A PACT TO READ ONE CHAPTER OF LUKE EVERY DAY. YOU WILL READ ALL 24 CHAPTERS BY CHRISTMAS EVE.
Last Tuesday rocked!. USA vs. Iran in the World Cup. It would have been so cool to be there to watch it in person. But crowds were gathered everywhere across the country and the world to watch! Thousands, skipped work to watch the big match.
In this passage, Jesus is talking. “No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a jar or puts it under a bed, but puts it on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light.”
Remember last week, the shepherds heard the proclamation from the angel followed by an angel chorus! They lit up the night sky with the announcement of Jesus’ birth! You know God doesn’t have to send out birth announcements in the mail or on Facebook. Nope, He has a much grander announcement to the world. Afterwards, the shepherds raced to see baby Jesus! I would have run as fast as I could! After the shepherds saw Jesus, they told everybody (Luke 2:17)! They could not keep the good news for themselves.
Application: Last week, Christian Pulisic scored for the U.S.A. and the crowds at bars and gathered in front of huge screens everywhere erupted with celebration! It was amazing! People could not keep the news to themselves. It spread like a wildfire.
Jesus said, when you have a light, you shine it out for all to see. No one hides the light. When you have big news you share it.
Jesus is the Light of the World (John 8:12). If you know Jesus, you know the most exciting story with the most exciting finish of all time. Like the crowds last week, SHOUT IT OUT IN CELEBRATION THIS CHRISTMAS!!! Let’s go!
Christmas is a birthday party celebration! Like the shepherds, 2000 years ago, we have been given “good news of great joy that will be for all people” (Luke 2:10). SHOUT IT OUT!!!
ALL people means we do not hide it from ANYONE!
Prayer. Jesus, thank You that you are the light of the world. Christmas is a birthday party full of joy and celebration for what You came to do. This is great news. Give me courage to share this news with _________________________.
