The Story of God – Week Five Day Three

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-8.  J.B. page 1737.

Observation.  For a couple of years in Oklahoma we lived in a home with a steep front yard.  If you took a few steps off the front porch you would be soon be going down a steep slope.  One winter day tons of snow and ice fell and covered the area.  And while I was sitting comfy cozy inside my second oldest slipped down the slope and he could not make it back up.  It was time for dad to the rescue!  Except I took one step and slid down the slope past my son.  I needed more rescuing than he did!

You and I need to be rescued from our sin and its wages:  death.  Jesus came to rescue us from death.  Read 1 Corinthians 15:1-8.  Paul writes, I delivered to you as of first importance!

Paul has an urgent message “Hey, you need a rescuer!  And it’s Jesus!  This is what he did for you!”  This is the most important thing he has to share!

In Galatians 1:3-4, Paul writes to believers, ”Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age according to the will of our God and Father” (CSB Version).

Jesus gave Himself to RESCUE us.  We needed rescuing!

Application.  If you have trusted Jesus, you have been rescued!  We are completely dependent on what Jesus did to rescue us from our sin and completely dependent on Jesus every day.  He has saved us and is saving us from this world.

You have an urgent message to your friends, enemies, classmates, teammates, and family!  “Urgent!  You need a rescuer!  And it’s Jesus!  This is what He did for you!”

Prayer:  Jesus, You my rescuer!  You died for my sins in accordance with the Scriptures, You were buried, You were raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures and You appeared to Peter, then to the twelve and then more to 500 at one time!  History proves.  You are my rescuer.  You are my Savior.  You are the only WAY to God.  You are my Friend.
