Portrait of Abe Lincoln – Til the Day I Die
Portrait of President Lincoln
TIL THE DAY I DIE
Picture Abraham Lincoln. Do you see his portrait in your head? How do you know that is what he looked like? Did you know he put Axe in his hair to spike it up like that? You never met him, unless you are older than you say you are! You can only trust the pictures that have been given to you.
Now picture God. He probably has long white hair to match his long white beard in your mind. Right? Hahah. But what if we were to paint a picture with words describing His character? What words would you use? Powerful? Loving? Good? Or Distant? Uncaring? Unknown?
Many times we let what other people say about God or our circumstances paint a picture of God’s characteristics. Do you know what I mean?
Prayer: “God, today, please show me a little more of what you look like. I want to get to know who you really are.”
Grab Your Bible: Read Genesis 3:1-5.
Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?”
2 The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden,3 but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’”
4 “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. 5 “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
You may have heard this story before from the very beginning of the world. Everything is perfect. Adam and Eve love God. And Satan (the Devil) comes along and convinces Eve and later Adam that God is keeping them from having the best life. Satan lies to Eve about God’s character. And Eve takes the bait! Then Eve disobeys God because she what she believes about God is a lie.
If we are going to have a heart willing to follow God “Til the Day I Die” you need to know the absolute truth about who God is! What is He really like? Can you trust Him? Does He really care about you and I? What about the time my grandma died, where was He then? And now, when my family is going through some really tough stuff, will He help? Does He care?
These are real questions we all have! But please do not let your tough circumstances define God as uncaring or unloving. That is the lie that Satan wants you to believe, just like Eve did in the very beginning.
God wants you to spend time with Him and get to know Him.
How? Well, the loudest way He speaks to you is through His Word, the Bible. Spend time in it. God wrote it to you and me.
Prayer: God, thank you for loving me even when life gets tough. Help me to get to know you more. Help me to trust you more. You are my God.
