Identity, Belonging, Purpose

Week One – Day Three – Welcome to the Story

Scripture:  Genesis 1: 1-13.  J.B. page 4.

Observation.  Do you remember the first day of kindergarten or first grade?  Do you remember the any of your firsts?  There was the step you took (you don’t remember that!). Perhaps it was your first goal scored or your first homerun.  What firsts do you remember?

It all starts here.  “In the beginning, God…”. No one created God.  God has always been.  He is outside of time and space.  He was before all things.  God started it all.

“In the beginning, God created…”. God is the one who did the creating.  He is the one who spoke everything into existence.  He put the universe, the world, the EVERYTHING together.

Application.  God created.  God did it.  This is His story.  We are the one created, He is the one who created.  Read that again slowly.  We defer to Jesus.  We bow to Him.  He gets the curtain call, the limelight. We are just the role players.  He gets the headlines in the paper.  He is the one in control.

This story is written by Him and it’s all about Him. But know this, He is good.  He is love.  He is faithful.  He has invited us into the story.  And He wants us to know that He is crazy in love with us.

Today, remember that God get the glory.  Let God have headlines of your life.  Let Him be in control.  He knows what lies ahead.  He controls the future.  So trust Him.  Lean on Him.  Look to Him for wisdom.  And be quick to give Him all the credit, all the honor, all the glory.

Prayer:  God, You made the heavens and the earth.  You made the sun and the tiny things.  You created.  This is Your story.  Help my life and my words and my attitude point to You.  Help me resist the temptation to grab the headlines for myself.  Help me to point others to You and Your epic story.
