2023 – Words for the Year – Day Two
Day Two. LOOK
Scripture: Hebrews 12:1-2. J.B. page 1856.
Observation. Yesterday our word for the day was FAITH, an intense form of trust in God. We looked in the book of Hebrews in our Bible. If we were to keep reading in Hebrews 11 we would see all kinds of people that had faith in God in all kinds of circumstances. Some saw God answer their prayers and were rescued. Some did not see God answer their prayers and some even lost their lives following God. It is an inspiring list of people and stories.
Christians since then have lost their heads, been skinned alive, burned at the stake, lost family members, been tortured beyond belief. For what? Because they loved Jesus and would not deny His name. Wow!
Chapter 12, the next chapter, tells us, “Since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses.” The people of faith from past generations are cheering you on. The verse tells us to throw off any weight, any hindrance, anything that would keep us from running our race, “LOOKing to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith.”
Application: You have heard it said, “Keep your eye on the prize.” To keep growing in our faith, you and I need to LOOK to Jesus. Keep our eyes on Jesus. HE IS THE PRIZE! Jesus is the prize. We get Him. He perfects our faith. He walks with us when life is difficult. He talks to us. He encourages us. He loves us like crazy.
Prayer. Jesus, You are my prize. I can live without everything else, but I have to have You. Help me to LOOK to You.
