Week Three – Day Two – 24 Days of Christmas
Scripture: Luke 14: 7-11. J.B. page 1587.
Observation. Two weeks ago, when the U.S. defeated Iran in the World Cup, a U.S. player squatted down next to an Iranian player who was visibly upset. The American player offered condolences and encouragement to the Iranian. It was such a cool picture of selflessness and concern for others.
In this parable that Jesus teaches, He tells of wedding guests who show up to the wedding feast. Do they sit in the place of honor close to the bride and groom or do they sit further away? Read and see what instruction Jesus gives.
Application: Pride distorts our picture of ourselves. We focus on our own accomplishment. We focus on our possessions. We lose focus of others and how God has provided.
The American soccer player was excited for the victory. But he did not let it lead to pride and thinking of himself better than others.
As we read last week, Jesus emptied Himself when He left heaven and came as a baby born in a manger.
This Christmas, humble yourself. Look to others’ interests before your own. THIS IS HARD!!! So ask Jesus to help you! Even in your excitement, don’t be blind to the hurt of others. Take time. Notice them. Encourage them.
Prayer. Jesus, You set the example. You emptied Yourself to serve and love. Examine my heart and show me where my heart is prideful. Today, help me to serve and love others.
