Week Ten Day Three

Scripture: John 14:15-26.  J.B. page 1632.

Observation.  Yes, same verses as Day Two.  Reread verse 15.  “If you love me, keep my commandments.”

Have you heard the saying, “There is proof in the pudding.”  I do not know where that originated; however, I know it means that your life should back up what you claim.

If I told my wife, Jenney, that I loved her, but I never spent any time with her.  I never took her on a date, and if I never spent any money on her buying her gifts or flowers, and if I never did anything she asked me to do…let’s just say, that would not be much love.   The (lack of) proof would be in the pudding!

For Jenney, my promise to her, is that I will always be with her, follow her anywhere God takes us, give her as much time and attention as I possibly give and spend on her whatever I can to demonstrate my love for her.  I choose her.

To love God is to choose Him and His ways.  It does NOT mean that I am perfect.  It means that I spend time with Him, I talk to Him, I listen to Him and I obey Him.  I choose Him and His ways over anything else!

Brennan Manning, one of my favorite authors explains better than me., “In essence, there is only one thing God asks of us-that we may be men and women of prayer, people who live close to God, people for whom God is everything and for whom God is enough.”  (Ragamuffin Gospel, 2000, p. 46.)

Application.  Remember last week, Mary anointed Jesus!  Our obedience is an act of giving attention to, an act of worship.  Our obedience expresses how deep our love is for God.

Prayer: Jesus, help my love for You to run so deep that I will follow You anywhere, anytime, and do anything You ask of me.
