Week Ten Day Two
Scripture: John 14:15-26. J.B. page 1632.
Observation. It’s almost time to watch Christmas movies! Yes! In our house we only watch Christmas movies from Thanksgiving night until Christmas day. Then they are banned for the year. Thanksgiving night, after the Cowboy’s game, we watch Home Alone. It is one of my favs!
In this passage, Jesus is talking to His disciples about leaving. In verse 18, he says He will not leave them as orphans. He will give them a helper! They won’t be home alone!
The helper is the Holy Spirit, who is the third person of God (more about that another time). But the truth is, while Jesus left and sits at the right hand of the Father, He gave us the gift of the Holy Spirit. God is with us. He lives in us and we in him, for those who have trusted Jesus.
The helper, the Holy Spirit, will guide us to all truth. He will be with us at all times. He will guarantee that we get to spend eternity in heaven.
Application: God’s presence with us should give us courage to live for Him. No matter what is going on, God is living inside of us. We do not need to fear no matter what we are going through.
1 John 4:14-16 (page 1895 in your Jesus Bible) says, “By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”
We are not abandoned! Ever. And he loves us like crazy!
Prayer. Thank you for the gift of the presence of the Holy Spirit for those who have trusted Jesus as God’s son. Thank you that we are never home alone. Thank you that you love us like crazy!
