Observation.  What does the passage say?  What is difficult tounderstand?  What does it say to me?

Application.  How do I apply these verses?  Is there somethingto give God thanks for?  Is there is a sin to avoid?

Prayer.  Simply end your time with God talking with Him.

Day One

Scripture: John 14:12-14.   Jesus Bible pg. 1632.

Observation: Today’s verses can be really tough.  Jesus states, “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.  If you ask me anything in my name I will do it.”

Well…what about the time I prayed for my grandma to get well?  What about the time I prayed for _____________ and it didn’t happen the way I prayed?  These are great questions.  And I do not know for certain all the answers.

I do know that God is not giving us a Santa list of “yes’s.”  He is NOT saying that just because I add Jesus’ name to my prayers that I will get it all.  Jesus is not giving us a magic formula where we can control God.  He is telling us we should pray prayers that align with God’s heart.  We should pray prayers that bring God glory.

And we should let God shape our prayers as He reveals Himself to us.  In other words, God teaches us how to pray to Himself.

Application: Two keys things we can learn to shape our prayers.  First, when we pray, don’t rush it and let God speak to you either through what the Bible has to say or through God’s gentle voice in your heart.  (That gentle heart will NEVER contradict what the Bible says!).

Second, learn to pray Bible verse back to God.  For example, God make me “Strong and courageous.” (Joshua 1).

Prayer.  Teach me to pray prayers God that align my desires and purposes with Yours God.  Help me to pray your desires!  And help me to completely trust You even when I do not get what I want.
