Week Nine Day Two

Day Two

Scripture: John 14:1-4.  J.B. page 1632.

Observation.  Think of a time you have been most terrified or upset.  No, not a Halloween haunted house or scary movie, but a time you were shaken up.  Jesus has been predicting His death.  And He has just told the disciples that one of their own, Judas, will betray Him.  The hearts and thoughts of the disciples are in an upheaval.  Jesus gives them assurance.  “Let not your hearts be _______________.”

He tells them to believe in God and to believe in Him.  The belief He talks about is a personal trust.  Jesus says, “Trust me!”  In Deuteronomy 1:29-30 God tells His people, “Don’t be terrified or afraid of them!  The Lord your God who goes before you will fight for you, just as you saw him do for you in Egypt.”  And all throughout the Old Testament, God encourages His people to trust in Him.

Application:  Many times circumstances in our lives cause our hearts to be a mess.  Life is hard, uncertain, and scary at times.  And we cannot see the big picture.  All we see is the scary moment or season right in front of us.  But Jesus sees and knows the end result and he can be trusted at all times.  He sees the Even more, He promises to be with us through it all.  No matter uncertain things in life become, Jesus is always certain.  He is ALWAYS faithful.  He can always be counted on.  ALWAYS…even when things don’t go the way we ask for.

Prayer.  Jesus, You told the disciples to believe in God and to believe also in You, help me to do the same.  This situation ____________________________ is bigger than me, but it is not bigger than You.  I only see part of the picture, but you see the whole thing.  Help me to trust in You.
