Week Eight Day Four

Day Four

Scripture: John 13:1-17.  J.B. page 1631.

CAN”T WAIT TO SEE YOU SUNDAY AT THE POST!!!

Observation.  This takes place the night before Jesus lays down His life for us.  He is meeting with His disciples eating what is called the Passover meal.  There is so much that takes place during this time.  Jesus knows that He will soon be arrested, tried, and crucified on the cross.  These are His last moments with His disciples, His friends.

One of his last actions is to humble Himself and wash the disciples’ feet.  The King of the Universe is washing their feet.  Think of the grime and dirt and maybe even donkey poo!  Yet Jesus set the example in humility.  He served.

Application.  “That’s not fair!  I don’t deserve this.  How come she gets to ________ or he gets to ________ and I don’t!”   Wow!  I have been guilty of wanting things to be fair.  I want the honor.  I want the recognition.  I want the applause.  What about you?

Philippians 2:2-3 instructs us, “complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.  Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

That is HARD TO DO!  God wants me to count OTHERS as MORE IMPORTANT than me. But Jesus does that with His disciples.

Jesus did not hang on to His title or what He thought He deserved or what He thought was fair.  All of that was secondary to honoring and serving His friends.

Prayer.  Jesus, You are the King of the Universe, yet You laid it all down and served.  “You did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied yourself, by taking the form of a servant,..” (Philippians 2:6-7).  God, I admit, this is REALLY hard.  Honestly, I like to stay focused on me.  I cannot be this humble unless You do that in me.  Help me to get my eyes off of me.  Help me to consider others’ interests more significant than my own.”

Rock this day!!!
