Week Five Day Four

Day Four

Scripture: John 8:34-38. J.B. page 1622.

Observation.  Everyone who practices sin is a _____________ to sin. Who remains forever?______________. Slaves have no permanent rights; however, sons do.  “So if the son sets you free, you are free indeed.”  God will change you from the inside out and free you from that sin that weighs you down.

Application.  In 1979, shortly after Bob Dylan became a Christian, he wrote a song called, “Gotta Serve Somebody.”  His lyrics talk about how no matter who you are or what you do in life, ultimately you’ll have to choose who you will serve.  The chorus goes

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed

You’re gonna have to serve somebody,

Well, it may be the devil, or it may be the Lord

But you’re gonna have to serve somebody.”

(Taken from Christie, Nystrom page. 298)

So choose to be His follower.  To love Him with a deep passion.  He wants your heart, not your religion.  He wants your heart, not a checklist to prove you have earned it.  We do not have to earn nor can we earn God’s love.  By His grace, He gives it to us for free.  Let that free you from sin to love Him with all you “got.”  Spend time with Him.

Remember, as we started the week, the goal of the Gospel is to produce a people consumed with a passion for God and love for others!  (Greear)

Prayer.  (Express your love to God in your own words.  Go for it.  Just talk to Him.  You don’t need fancy words.  His love for you will never give up or walk away!)
