Week Four Day Three
Day Three
Scripture: John 6:25-40. J.B. page 1618-1619.
Observation. Ok, these verses may seem hard to understand.
Jesus says the crowd is following Him because they saw miracles and got a free lunch(when he fed 5000! And He tells them, not to pursue food that spoils, but instead food for eternal life.
Simply put, Jesus is the bread that meets our hunger pains for something more. He is the only one who can satisfy (not snickers!).
A HUGE NOTE here, they wanted to know what they had to do to earn salvation. “What does God require?’
And Jesus has an answer I believe catches them completely off guard. He says, “The work of God is this, believe in the one he has sent.”
Jesus is talking about himself, the one God has sent. And Jesus says believe IN Him. Put your trust in Him. Have faith IN God.
Application. We search for all kinds of things to satisfy our heart, our soul…acceptance, approval, success, boyfriends or girlfriends. God is the only thing that will satisfy your heart. You can’t earn God’s love or favor. It’s a free gift. The people in the story wanted to know how to earn God’s favor, but Jesus stood right in front of them offering it for free if they only believed IN Him. Most of them missed it.
God loves you like crazy. Jesus came for you. And if did that, He will walk with you through whatever you are going through right now. He will satisfy your heart. He will love you for free.
Prayer: Have you trusted God with your life? You can right now, pray something like this…
“God, I know that I have sinned and I do not deserve You. Thank you for loving me and sending Jesus, your Son, who lived a perfect life and died in my place for my sin. Please forgive me. Jesus, You are Lord. Please come into my life and take over. I trust You. I love You.”
