Identity, Belonging, Purpose

Week Four Day One

Day One

Scripture: John 6:1-15.  Jesus Bible pg. 1618

TAKE TIME TO READ THE RIGHT-HAND COLUMN, PG 1618, IN YOUR JESUS BIBLE.  THESE ARE A MAN’S INSIGHT ADDED TO GOD’S WORD, BUT IT IS GOOD STUFF.

Observation: Do you like big tests?  No way!!!  But if the answer is given to you, it’s ok right?

Jesus has been healing and performing many miracles.  Not surprisingly, there is a huge crowd following Him around.  Jesus asked Philip, one of the disciples, “Where are we to buy bread so that these people may eat?”  But Jesus already had a plan, He just wanted to test Philip.  Philip told Jesus that 8 months wages would not be enough to buy bread.  (That’s too much bread $$$ needed to buy bread!)  And Andrew, another disciple, jumped in and said he found a young boy who had five bread loaves and two fish.  Jesus took it from there.

Put yourself in Philip or Andrew’s position, how do you respond to Jesus?  What are your thoughts about feeding more than 5000 with so little?  As Jesus is praying over the 5 loaves and 2 fish, are you expecting God to do something big or is your heart just wondering how many tiny bites people will get to eat?

Everyone eats and is stuffed, plus there are leftovers.  What are your thoughts?

Application: Jesus knows your need even before you do.  No matter what your circumstance God cares and works in your time of need.  I do not know the crisis you may be facing, but God does.  You can trust God.  He is completely faithful.

And think of the boy.  He had so little, but he put it in Jesus’ hands.  And what did Jesus do with it?  Much more than anyone could have expected.  Your best, no matter how small, can be used in big, big ways in God’s hands.

Prayer.  God, thank you for the example of this little boy.  He gave all he had to you.  Help me to surrender my hopes, my dreams, my heart to You.  I know you can do so much more with the little I have to offer.
