Identity, Belonging, Purpose

Week Three Day Two

Day Two

Scripture: John 4:46-54.  J.B, page 1616

Observation.  An official, perhaps a Roman leader of soldiers, made a 15-mile journey uphill to his town to the town of Cana.  His son was ill and about to die.  So he would have made a 1500 mile journey if needed.  The desperate dad had heard about the miracles Jesus had performed so he had to find Him.  He pleaded with Jesus to come and heal his son.

Jesus told the dad that his son would be healed.  The dad started the return trip, probably with high hopes, but also lingering doubts.  The next day before the dad made it home, his servants met him and said his son was recovering.  In fact, he began to get better at the exact time Jesus had spoken to the dad.  HOW COOL IS THAT!  I mean, that would rock my world.

As a result, the dad put his faith in Jesus and the whole household (family and servants) did as well.

Application.  Do you think Jesus pays as much attention to your prayers as he did the dad’s personal face-to-face request?

He does!  He instructs us to “pray at all times.”  (Philippians 4:6).  That doesn’t mean we walk around with our eyes closed all the time.  It means we are always taking our concerns and anxieties to God.

God is good, really good, and He know how to give the best gifts.  He gives us Himself.  He will not hold back.  We may not always get what we ask for, but God is good.  You can trust Him.  Tell Him your every anxiety, your every problem and trust Him.

Prayer.  God, I am desperate for you, like the dad was in this story.  Will you come to my rescue with this situation _________________________________? I need You.
