John 1
Scripture. Choose the passage. Have a plan, don’t make it a random passage in the Bible.
Observation. What does the passage say? What is difficult to understand? What does it say to me?
Application. How do I apply these verses? Is there something to give God thanks for? Is there is a sin to avoid?
Prayer. Simply end your time with God talking with Him.
So this evening I invite you to give it a try.
Grab you Bible and some alone space away from all distractions (yes, even your phone for a few moments.)
Scripture: John 1:1-14 (Use the table of contents page and find John in the New Testament.)
John is one of the disciples of Jesus. He writes this book so that those who follow behind will believe in Jesus. As we journey through this book in the Bible we will see all kinds of cool miracles that Jesus does. Try not to rush through them, but put yourself in the scene 2000 years ago. Try to imagine what it would be like watching it all take place.
These first few verses, it will help if you substitute Jesus everywhere it says “The Word” because that is who it is talking about. Jesus left heaven and came to earth on a mission. What was it?
Now grab the SOAP card if you have it close by, or just look the outline above. Walk through the questions after you read the verses a couple of times. Be still and listen. Ask God to speak to you.
Observation: How long has “The Word” or Jesus been around? What has happened through Jesus? He came to be light in the world and they did not believe Jesus. But look at verse 12. For everyone who believes in Jesus, they are given what right?
Application: Is there something specific in these verses that God is trying to tell you? Have you believed in Jesus? Have you put your faith in Him? IF so, you are His child. So go shine your light to everyone around you.
Prayer: Is there something you want to tell God, in light of what you have just read? Before you walk away, talk to God about what’s on your heart. Tell Him all of your concerns, worries, joys…anything you want! God is concerned about everything that is on your heart.
