Undiginified

Ok, so maybe you think I am over the top about the Longhorns.  If only, I could get you to a game.  If you could walk around the campus and the stadium and attend a game.  Then, maybe, you would understand.  You just have to experience it.

Experience.  That is the key.  If more people could experience this relationship with God, if they could know how much He loves them and how crazy He is about them, then, maybe, just maybe, they would not think loving God would be so over the top!

King David was bringing the Ark of God back to Jerusalem, the capitol of Israel.  It represented the presence of God.  (Think Raiders of the Lost Ark.). They had tried before to bring it back, but by not following God’s instruction, many people died.  Now they got it right.  And the Ark had arrived in Jerusalem.  And King David was excited!

PRAYER:  God, today, teach more about worshipping you today.

GRAB YOUR BIBLE:  2 Samuel 6:12-22

Now King David was told, “The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. 13When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. 14Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, 15while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

16As the ark of the Lord was entering the City of David, Michal daughter of Saul watched from a window. And when she saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, she despised him in her heart.

17They brought the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent that David had pitched for it, and David sacrificed burnt offerings and fellowship offerings before the Lord. 18After he had finished sacrificing the burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord Almighty. 19Then he gave a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins to each person in the whole crowd of Israelites, both men and women. And all the people went to their homes.

20When David returned home to bless his household, Michal daughter of Saul came out to meet him and said, “How the king of Israel has distinguished himself today, going around half-naked in full view of the slave girls of his servants as any vulgar fellow would!”

21David said to Michal, “It was before the Lord, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the Lord’s people Israel—I will celebrate before the Lord. 22I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

The King, was so excited he took off his kingly robe and danced in his underwear (ok, not tighty whiteys, because there was a lot of underwear for the king) in the street. He was excited about what God had done.

Worship is about bringing honor to God for who He is and what He has done.  Who is God to you?  He is just someone to give a little thanks to?  Or a lot?  I hope that God will become a BIG but personal God who controls the universe but still knows you by name and knows every concern you have.  God is BIG and awesome, but He still loves and cares about me.

PRAYER:  God, I love You!  Help me to worship You.
