AMAZING GRACE

Consequences, Chances & Confession

If you didn’t get a chance to read yesterday’s devotion (No Boundaries Grace) go back there first.

King David sinned big time against God and his people.  And because of his sin, lots of peoples’ lives were forever impacted.  Uriah was murdered.  His wife suffered.  And David suffered consequences for his sin.  David’s son died.  Other family members betrayed him.  Big consequences!

David was confronted about his sin from a man named Nathan.  And David repented (turned away from his sin and back to God).

Your sin always has consequences, but God gives second chances, so confess your sin.

Pray:  “God, I know my sin always affects others.  Teach me about your grace and forgiveness.”

Grab Your Bible:  Psalm 51:1-10.

 Have mercy on me, O God,
because of your unfailing love.
Because of your great compassion,
blot out the stain of my sins.
Wash me clean from my guilt.
Purify me from my sin.
For I recognize my rebellion;
it haunts me day and night.
Against you, and you alone, have I sinned;
I have done what is evil in your sight.
You will be proved right in what you say,
and your judgment against me is just.[a]
For I was born a sinner—
yes, from the moment my mother conceived me.
But you desire honesty from the womb,[b]
teaching me wisdom even there.

Purify me from my sins,[c] and I will be clean;
wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.
Oh, give me back my joy again;
you have broken me—
now let me rejoice.
Don’t keep looking at my sins.
Remove the stain of my guilt.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a loyal spirit within me.

After King David was confronted by his sin, he admitted his sin.  He was not just sorry because He got caught.  He was genuinely sorry for the sin and hurt he had caused.  He was heartbroken over his sin.  And he came running back to God.

This is huge!  You have to know your sin will always have consequences.  Grace does not wipe away the hurt your sin may cause.  You sin should break your heart.  Our sin cost God His son’s life.  But God’s forgiveness should cause you to run back to God.

Take a moment to reread verses 7-10 again.  His heart is genuine.  He is truly sorry for what he has done.  And King David seeks God.

Your sin always has consequences, but God gives second chances, so confess your sin.

Prayer:  God, Jesus died for my sin, so I can know your forgiveness.   Thank you for not giving up on me.
