Even the Demons Listen

So I am not the most fiercest of substitutes.  People walk into a classroom and celebrate because it’s a sub!  They know they will be able to get away with a few things that they normally wouldn’t.  They know I have little authority.  However, when a dean or principal walk in, it is a different story.  Students stop what they are doing and shut-up.  Even the trouble-makers know their world is about to be wrecked.  They listen to the authority.

Even the demons know and listen to Jesus.   

 Pray:  God, today help me to begin to understand even more who You are.

Grab your Bible:  Read Luke 4: 31-37.

  Then Jesus went to Capernaum, a town in Galilee, and taught there in the synagogue every Sabbath day. ³² There, too, the people were amazed at his teaching, for he spoke with authority.

³³ Once when he was in the synagogue, a man possessed by a demon—an evil^[a]spirit—cried out, shouting, ³⁴ “Go away! Why are you interfering with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

³⁵ But Jesus reprimanded him. “Be quiet! Come out of the man,” he ordered. At that, the demon threw the man to the floor as the crowd watched; then it came out of him without hurting him further.

³⁶ Amazed, the people exclaimed, “What authority and power this man’s words possess! Even evil spirits obey him, and they flee at his command!” ³⁷ The news about Jesus spread through every village in the entire region.

 Jesus walked into a synagogue (Jewish church) on their day of worship (Sabbath).  He finds a man who was possessed by a demon.  The demon tells Jesus to go away.  And asks Jesus what he wants with them (demons).  The demons recognize who Jesus is and calls Jesus, “the Holy one of God.”  Jesus commands the demons to leave the man and they do.  The people who see it are amazed at the authority and power of Jesus.  Even the demons believe and RUN.

Even the demons know and listen to Jesus.  

 Hey, the spiritual world is real.  The battle over darkness and light is real.  And the scary movies do not even begin to tell the real story.  But Jesus is in control.  Jesus has authority over the demons.  The demons ran from Jesus.

And the people were amazed!

Prayer:  God, You are in control of all things.  You are that powerful.  Wow, help me to trust You in all circumstances.
