My Favorite Things – TIL THE DAY I DIE
My Favorite Things
TIL THE DAY I DIE
Blue Bell chocolate chip ice cream, a medium well porterhouse steak, Chicago style pizza, the University of Texas beating Oklahoma (in anything), cheering on my kids in anything, and listening to students worship God…these are some of my all-time favorites.
Take a minute to make your own list.
Now, what would change if you had to make a list of things you absolutely could not live without (excluding air, water, food, your sister!). What or whom would be on that list? I am talking about things that really get you fired up and stir your heart!
Prayer: “God, you are amazing! I love you. Help me not to just read these words on my phone today, but to really listen to what you have to say to me”
Grab Your Bible: Read Psalm 16:1-6 (The Message Version).
1-2 Keep me safe, O God,
I’ve run for dear life to you.
I say to God, “Be my Lord!”
Without you, nothing makes sense.
3 And these God-chosen lives all around—
what splendid friends they make!
4 Don’t just go shopping for a god.
Gods are not for sale.
I swear I’ll never treat god-names
like brand-names.
5-6 My choice is you, God, first and only.
And now I find I’m your choice!
You set me up with a house and yard.
And then you made me your heir!
God has given us so many good things to enjoy and to love! Wow, He is so creative and good. He is the one who gave us ice cream…or at least the ingredients and the know-how to make it. He is the one who gave us good food to enjoy. He is the one who gave us great friends. He gave us a love for music or dancing or softball or whatever it is that you love. He is so good. The Bible even tells us in Psalm 34:8, “Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see— how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.”
How cool is it that our God is so good. However, He never wants the good things He gives us to be more important to us than He is. So these next few days, evaluate. It is not a time to feel guilty, but to really see what is nearest and dearest to your heart. And let God show you. And let God help you make some changes.
Prayer: God, thank you for being so good to me. Wow, there are so many things that you have given. Show me, speak to my heart and show me where I love these good things more than you. I want to love you most!
