Friends For Life Week 4 Day 1
FRIENDS FOR LIFE
Week 4 Day 1
DEEP FAITH OPENS DOORS TO DEEP FRIENDSHIPS.
So David was sent by dad to his brothers on the front line of the war. His brothers are not thankful and question David’s motives. But what does David find there? Israel’s army is scared stiff for 40 days! They are watching everyday as the enemy, the Philistines send out Goliath, a 9 foot giant with a bronze helmet, bronze mail weighing over 125 pounds, carrying an iron spearhead on the end of his spear weighing over 15 pounds. His armor bearer stood in front of him holding his shield. to challenge the Israelites. Whoa!
But David asks, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies of the living God?”
DEEP FAITH OPENS DOORS TO DEEP FRIENDSHIPS.
Prayer: “God, I love you. Be my strength. Fight for me. Be with me. Help my faith to grow deep and my friendships will grow deep.
Grab Your Bible: Read 1 Samuel 17:36-37, 47.
36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. 37 The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.”
Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you…
For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.”
The army of Israel tucked tail and ran, but David, a teenager, despised by his parents and looked down on by his brothers, stepped up. David did not focus on what others thought of him (family). He looked to god and REMEMBERED God’s faithfulness in his life. God had helped him kill a lion and bear as a teenager.
David’s faith was deep. He drew his strength from God. And Jonathan had noticed. When we get our strength from God first your friendships can run deeper and stronger. You friend does not define you. Your friend does not complete you. God does.
DEEP FAITH OPENS DOORS TO DEEP FRIENDSHIPS.
Prayer: God give me a heart like David that chooses to trust in You no matter what. I believe God, help my unbelief. I can completely trust You.
