Rescue Week 1 Day 2

RESCUED

Week 1 Day 2

What if you had been on the Titanic that dreadful night in April 1912?  Put yourself on board.  You are having a great voyage and are looking out as the moon reflects off of the Atlantic.  Suddenly you hear and feel a big thud.  You lose you balance and the lights flicker.  Initially you don’t worry about it, but soon after everyone realizes their lives are at stake.

The Titanic, called the unsinkable ship, is sinking.  The crew of the ship had not even held lifeboat drills for the passengers.  And even though the ship designed to hold more than 64 lifeboats, only 20 were carried on the maiden voyage.  On top of that many lifeboats were launched without being completely full of people.  Over one-half of the 2200 passengers could have been saved if the lifeboats were bull.  Instead only about one-third were saved.

So, you are desperate to get on a lifeboat.  You wait in line but right before you are to get on one, it launches out away from the ship.  You will never make it on another boat.  The lines are too long.  You hear the music in the background as the musicians are still playing…crazy right?  You sense the boat is going down quickly.  Out of desperation you jump into the water and swim as fast as you can to get away from the boat before it breaks in half and sinks.

At 32 degrees, the iceberg is actually warmer than the water!  Somehow you manage to tread the frigid water until the rescue ship Carpithea shows up at 4:10 a.m.  The sailors offer to pull you in, but you shock them when you yell back, “No thanks!  I am fine.  I like it in the water.”

Yes, that is not gonna happen.

Pray:  Father God, I love you.  I know I am a sinner in need of a rescuer.  I need You.  Please show me more about you today.

Grab Your Bible:   Read Romans 6:23 in your Bible.  If you do not have one please let Forrest know!

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.

Yesterday, we saw how everyone has sinned and that has created this separation between you and God.  Many people do not even know it, yet their very souls are in danger.  When we talk about our own sin, we often say “I am bad because I ___________.”  But what the verse we just read doesn’t say that sin makes us bad.  It says that it makes us DEAD!  So you are dead…without Christ.  You are just like the people in the water after the Titanic went down.  They are dead ( or about to be).  They need a rescuer!!!  You and me, because of our sin, need a rescuer!!!

Prayer:  God, I know because of my sin, I need to be rescued.  You are my only hope.  My popularity, my possessions, my good-looks, my parents cool car, my grades, or athletic skill or good deeds CANNOT save me.  Only you can.  I love you.
